Best Defenders in Serie A – Week 13

dambrosio

Some strong performances from defenders in this week, but not many clean sheets Here is the top five.

1) Danilo D’Ambrosio: he led all defender with seven points thanks to the clean sheet and the beautiful cross to set up Icardi. He is enjoying an extremely efficient season, where he has easily beaten out Joao Cancelo, Yuto Nagatomo and Davide Santon for the starting job on the right flank and was also regularly called up by the national team.

2) Armando Izzo: the whole Genoa defence obviously garnered points thanks to the clean sheet at Crotone. Izzo has been steady since his return from suspension. Ballardini picked Nicolas Spolli over Luca Rossettini to anchor the backline and the early returns were positive, as the Argentinian could be more suited for that position.

3) Filippo Romagna: Cagliari had conceded 13 times in six matches on the road, but surprisingly did not allow any goal against Udinese, so Romagna, Ceppitelli and Andreolli all earned five points. The coach Diego Lopez has tried multiple combinations in the three-man backline and right now the youngster seems to have gained an edge on Fabio Pisacane and Marco Capuano thanks to a couple of good performances in a row.

4) Davide Santon: he was a surprise starter over Yuto Nagatomo in Inter-Atalanta and held his own against the dynamic Hans Hateboer. He was inserted because of his ability in his air against a very physical team and could have more chances going forward, especially because Dalbert is failing to live up to the hype and is taking more time than expected to adjust to Serie A.

5) Milan Skriniar: it was a good day for Inter’s defence. Gian Piero Gasperini tried to mix things up by using a false-nine, but the move did not pay off as Skriniar and Miranda did not suffer Gomez and Ilicic’s mobility. Atalanta did better when Danilo Petagna was subbed in, but not enough to score. He is closing in on Faouzi Ghoulam and Aleksandar Kolarov in the seasonal defender’s chart.
